The Glorious bastards of Lupa

€395.00

These terracotta sculptures are made from termite clay from the jungles of the Philippines.

I fell in love with the material and brought some home so I could continue working with it.

Lupa means earth in Tagalog.

The Glorious Bastards refers to the jungle mosquitoes. They seemed to know exactly who the tourist was. Before I had the chance to reapply mosquito repellent, I was already being bitten again. In my imagination, they gradually became mischievous little creatures, triumphantly sticking out their tongues at me.

These extraordinary figures emerged from that experience..a playful tribute to the earth, the jungle, and its smallest yet most glorious little bastards.
